Terms of service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") apply to your use of the Snowline website at snowline.jp and the Snowline app for iOS and Android (together, "Snowline"). By using Snowline, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use Snowline.

Our Privacy Policy explains what information we collect and how we use it. It is part of these Terms.

Last updated 16 October 2026.

Safety comes first

Skiing and snowboarding are dangerous. You are responsible for your own safety and for the decisions you make on the mountain. Always follow the rules of the resort, the instructions of ski patrol and the closures and warnings on the mountain.

Snow conditions, forecasts, opening dates, maps, runs, lifts and other information on Snowline come from resorts, public sources, other users and automated processing. They may be incomplete, out of date or wrong. Do not rely on Snowline to judge avalanche risk, weather, terrain, or whether a run, lift or area is open or safe. Snowline is not a navigation, rescue or emergency service. In an emergency, contact ski patrol or the emergency services.

Do not use your phone while riding. Tracking works in the background, so there is no need to look at the app while you are moving.

Your account

You can use much of Snowline without an account. To use features such as uploading your days, friends, live location and notes, you sign in with Apple, Google or, on the website, GitHub. You are responsible for what happens under your account, and for keeping access to the account you sign in with secure.

You must be at least 13 years old to create an account, and old enough to agree to these Terms where you live, or have the permission of a parent or guardian.

Your username and display name are shown to other users. Choose ones that do not impersonate anyone or break the rules below. We may change or remove a username that does.

Your content

Your content is what you add to Snowline: the days you record or import, your notes, check-ins, profile and the sessions you share. You keep the rights you have in it.

You give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, copy, process and display your content only as needed to run Snowline and provide its features to you and the people you choose to share it with. For notes you make visible to everyone, this includes showing them to anyone on the website and in the app. This licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies that others already have through features you used, and backups we keep for a limited time.

You are responsible for your content and must have the right to post it. We may remove content that breaks these Terms or the law.

Friends, live location and sharing

You choose who you share your live location and your days with, and for how long. Only share with people you trust. You can stop sharing at any time, but people you shared with may already have seen where you were.

Respect the people who share with you. Use what they share only to ride with them and to compare your days, and not to track, follow or harass anyone.

Rules of use

When you use Snowline, you agree not to:

  • Break any law, or help anyone else to break one.
  • Post notes that are false, misleading, abusive, hateful, sexually explicit, or that infringe anyone else's rights, or that reveal someone else's personal information.
  • Impersonate anyone, or create accounts to mislead other users.
  • Track, follow or harass other users, or use live location to find someone who has not chosen to share it with you.
  • Upload sessions or other data that you did not record, or that you have no right to share.
  • Scrape, copy or resell Snowline's data or content, or access Snowline by automated means, except as Snowline allows.
  • Interfere with Snowline, try to get around its security, or access accounts or data that are not yours.
  • Reverse engineer the app, except where the law allows it.

Snowline's content and data

Snowline, its design, text, images, software and the data we put together are owned by us or our licensors. You may use them for your own personal, non-commercial use of Snowline. You may not copy, sell or redistribute them without our permission.

Some data comes from third parties under their own licences, such as map data from OpenStreetMap contributors under the Open Database License, and elevation data from the sources credited at the bottom of each page. Those licences apply to that data.

Third-party services

Snowline relies on services from other companies, such as Apple and Google for signing in, maps, analytics and crash reports, and links to websites of resorts and others. We are not responsible for those services or websites, and their own terms apply when you use them.

The app stores

If you downloaded the app from the Apple App Store or Google Play, these Terms are between you and Snowline, not Apple or Google, and Snowline, not Apple or Google, is responsible for the app. The rules of the store you downloaded it from also apply. For the iOS app, Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you. Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app, and is not responsible for any claims relating to it, including product liability, legal or regulatory claims, or claims that the app infringes anyone's intellectual property.

Changes and availability

Snowline is changing all the time. We may add, change or remove features, and Snowline may sometimes be unavailable, for example for maintenance, or when there is no connection on the mountain. Days you record are kept on your phone until they can be uploaded, but we cannot promise that no data is ever lost. Export the days that matter to you.

Ending your use of Snowline

You can stop using Snowline at any time. To delete your account and its data, email us at snowline-jp@googlegroups.com from the email address of your account.

We may suspend or close your account, or remove your content, if you break these Terms, if the law requires it, or to protect other users or Snowline. Where it is reasonable, we will tell you why.

Disclaimer

Snowline is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement, to the fullest extent the law allows. We do not promise that Snowline or its information will be accurate, complete, up to date, uninterrupted or free of errors.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Snowline is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for any injury, loss or damage arising from your activities on the mountain or from relying on information on Snowline. Our total liability for any claim relating to Snowline is limited to the amount you paid us for Snowline in the twelve months before the claim, if any. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, such as for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud.

Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Japan. Any dispute relating to them or to Snowline will be brought in the Tokyo District Court, unless the law of the country where you live gives you the right to bring it elsewhere.

Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will change the date at the top of this page, and for significant changes we will let you know on the website or in the app. If you keep using Snowline after the changes take effect, you agree to the new Terms.
